Week 7 Term 4
On Monday we made fruit sticks. Some people tried new fruits that they hadn’t tasted before. Blueberries and strawberries were very popular.
On Wednesday and today we practised being grade ones again. We did some ‘making friends’ games. We had to ask questions and find people who liked the things on our sheet. We also had a friendship word search to complete. Today we did an activity on the computer. Some people played games in the gym, some people played Bingo and some people read books.
In Sport this week we were practising ball skills. We did soccer kicking and we used hockey sticks (they were not horses this time!).
The new Preps for next year came to school today. They even came to Assembly.
In our rooms we have been reading some more fairy tales. We know a lot about fairy tales now!
We have been writing letters in Prep this week to Mrs G and Gavin. They told us all about the farm when we went on our excursion last week. Preps drew some great pictures of the things they had seen.
In Maths people have been doing some different things. Prep L and D have been learning all about doubles; Prep S has been practising take aways.
It has been a busy week. Thursday was a HORRIBLE day! It rained all day and we couldn’t go out to play- we don’t like that!

Week 5 Term 4
This week was a funny week because we had a holiday on Tuesday. It was Cup Day. Some of us got to pick a horse for the big horse race called the Melbourne Cup. Sue even won some money! Some of the preps also won some money!
On Wednesday, we made cup cakes and some beautiful, great mums helped us. To make our cup cakes we had to cream the sugar and butter and then we added eggs and flour. We mixed them all together and put the mixture into patty pans. After baking them in the oven, we got to eat them! They tasted glorious, scrumptious and magic.
Some special people came to our school on Thursday. Their names were Michael and Don and they came to do science experiments with us. We put some vinegar in a pop top and some white powder called Bicarbonate of Soda in a balloon. We then put the balloon over the pop top and tipped the powder into the bottle. The balloon got bigger because there were bubbles from the chemical reaction. We learnt that everything in the world is solid, liquid or gas.
On Thursday in the morning, we planted our Sunflower seedlings and watered. We are going to look after them and watch them grow. Some of our plants got runied, but Sue says that she has more seeds and that we will be able to plant those.
In sport, we have been practising running around the oval because TODAY (Friday) it is the super duper Fun Run! We will be running 750m -some of us think that’s far! We have also played soccer this week and it has been exciting!
We can’t believe that it is only six and a half weeks to Christmas!

Week 4 Term 4
Last week we did not write our blog because we were doing something pretty exciting! We went to the gym and some of the kinder kids came too and we watched a puppet show. There were 3 plays. They were about animals. Sammy the Seal was the first one. We liked it when the fish squirted water at everyone! It was funny when the crab pinched Sammy the Seal’s nose. Silly Billy the dog was next- we learnt a song. The last play was about the farmyard. It was Old John’s farm. After the kinder kids had gone, we saw what is inside the puppet theatre and John showed us how all the different parts like scenery and lighting and puppets work. He also showed us how we could make our own puppets out of junk and recyclables.
This week on Monday, we made healthy sandwiches. We could choose to put cheese, ham, cucumber, tomato and butter in our sandwiches. We ate our sandwiches for lunch. They were scrumptious!
On Tuesday, we spent the afternoon with our buddies. We had fun playing games with them.
In Sport this week, we practised for Jump Rope for Heart. On Wednesday we had the “jump-off.” Some people had sore legs after all that skipping! Today in Sport we learnt a new game all about being a pirate. It is called ‘Ship Ahoy.’ We also played soccer. we will have to finish the game next week because Mr. P needed the gym!
On Wednesday Prep L had their turn visiting the Kinder. They played outside with all the different things.
In Maths we have been adding lots of things. We have used counters, dice, dominoes, fingers, playing cards and of course our BRAINS!
In Prep D, the Jellybeans put on a play about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. In Prep S we read the Gingerbread Man, and in Prep L we read the Three Little Pigs!

Week 2 Term 4
This week in sport we have been playing games. We learnt two new games. Alison taught us the Star Catcher’s game and Deb taught us French cricket. We are getting better at running round the oval. We can do 3 laps!
In Maths we have been learning about time. We have learnt about telling the time- clocks have a big hand and a little hand. If the big hand is pointing to the 12, it is an o’clock time. If the big hand is pointing to the 6 it is half past something.
Our word of the week was ‘was’! That sounds a bit funny!!!!
In Art we made some fruit out of playdough, which we also made. The fruit is to go in our fruit bowls that we made out of clay last week. We made our fruit bowls out of pinch pots.
Prep S got to be Prep Pals this week. We visited the Kinder and told the Kinder Kids all about Prep. Then we played with the Kinder kids in their playground. Next week it will be Prep D’s turn, and the week after it will be Prep L’s turn to be Prep pals. It will be fun!!!!
We are still learning about food. We compared apples and oranges using a Venn Diagram. We planted sunflower seeds. We hope they will grow into big sunflowers. We will have to water them and when the shoot comes up, they will need the sunshine too.
Last night it was very exciting- it was the school disco! We did lots of dancing and we got to have a snack and a drink too. We had a lot of fun. Iona won a door prize. It was a bouncy ball with a light in it!
Next week on Friday we will be having a puppet show. It will be awesome!

Week 1 Term 4
Sorry everyone- Preps spent a long time yesterday writing this week’s blog but due to problems with edublogs we were unable to save or publish our work!
Anyway, we are all glad to be back at school, although a little tired with daylight saving and getting up early every day. It is good to see Tess again after her huge trip around Australia. Poor Jesse didn’t have that good a holiday as he has returned with a broken arm!
This term sees the start of our ‘Food Glorious Food’ inquiry. We are looking at where our food comes from and hope to do a lot of cooking and eating over the coming weeks. We found out a lot about corn this week and tasted things like corn cobs, corn flakes, corn chips, corn flour and best of all POPCORN! We know corn does not grow under the ground or on a tree, and that it grows from a seed.
In Sport we have been learning to kick (a ball, not each other) and have learnt some new games. In Maths we have been investigating teen numbers- it is quite tricky remembering which way round to write them. Deb’s grade have had a daily Maths challenge- the Red Hot Chilli Peppers won this week!
We are looking at traditional tales this term, and wil be having a go at writing some for ourselves later on. Alison is working in Sue’s grade for the first three weeks of term, and enjoying getting to know all the Preps.
Next week we are looking forward to the disco on Thursday between 5.30 and 6.15- you can still buy your tickets on Monday if you haven’t got them yet!

Week 10 Term 3
This is the last week of Term 3. It has been a very busy week – and term – and everyone is looking forward to the school holidays. We have had so many special events this week it is hard to know where to begin!
On Tuesday we went shopping! We went to the 5/6 shopping centre. We all had $15 to spend. You could buy lolly bags, play games, get your hair sprayed, buy a giant cookie and have a spider drink. We could even watch some movies and have popcorn. Some students had massages and facials! Some of the teachers had their cars washed. It was a lot of fun going shopping, especially because we saw our buddies!
On Wednesday it was Teacher for a Day – students had to dress up as a teacher and the teachers had to dress up as students. We also met with our buddies in the afternoon and played some games with them.
On Thursday it was Footy Fun Day. Everyone had to dress up in their favourite team’s colours. There was a parade in the gym and all the teams marched around singing their team song. We had sausage rolls and pies for lunch. There was juice or soft drink or water to go with them. There were stickers and tattoes for everybody!
Today is the 1/2 Healthraiser food stall in the gym.
We will finish school today at 2:301! Hooray for holidays!

Week 9 Term 3
This week lots of us have had fun doing some painting. We have also been learning about rhyming words. While the Prep teachers were planning for next term, we got to watch the Magic Pudding with Jo and Mrs Duane. It was fun! Today is going to be the Arts Festival. Everyone is very busy getting ready. There will be pictures created by all the students at Box Hill North Primary School for everyone to enjoy. We will be able to buy our own paintings to take home! There will be different art activities for everyone to join in with. We will be able to have our dinner at school too!
Some of us went on a Treasure Hunt. We had to follow directions to find the treasure. The treasure was gold coins (with chocolate inside!) We also looked at maps, and Prep D made up a story called ‘The Hunt for the Magic Spring Flower.’
We have been playing games in Sport this week. we had our first time running round the oval getting ready for the Fun Run next term.
We discovered that we have learnt all the letters of the alphabet, but we don’t know all the numbers yet!
At assembly, Prep L won the trophy for rubbish free lunch for the second time in a row. Prep S and Prep D are going to try really hard to win next time!

Week 7 Term 3
On Monday we flew kites. There was not really enough wind to make them fly well, but it was still fun! We have all been making our own kites in our rooms. Our letter of the week was ‘k’.
On Tuesday we had an exciting day. We went on an excursion to Kew Traffic School. We learnt about keeping safe on bikes. We all rode our bikes round and round. We had to stop at the red lights and at the Stop sign. We had sticker stars on our left hand to remind us of left and right. We rode on the left and looked both ways before we set off. Daniel, the person at the traffic school, told us all about helmets and seat belts. We even had our lunch at the playground next to the traffic school. We enjoyed going on the bus.
We have been learning how to skip in Sport. You can skip with a long rope or with a short rope. If you skip with a long rope, you need two people to hold the rope, and you can skip with your friends. Today we did sport with Tanya and Mrs. Chameleon (Mrs Duane). We did skipping relays!
In Maths we had turtle races- some people were first, some were second and some were third!
We have been learning some songs about people who help us. We are going to perform them in assembly next week. We are looking forward to putting on a great show.

Week 5 Term 3
This week it has been cold and wet! It was rather disappointing because we had to postpone our special Olympics Day on Wednesday and it will now be next Friday.
Our letter of the week was ‘t’ and we all sang the song about ‘The Little Teapot’. We made televisions and put stories on them. In Prep D there was a tea party with tea and teddy biscuits! In Word Study we were investigating the letter ‘i’. We found it can make lots of different sounds in words.
It was fun when the firefighters came on Wednesday. Some of the people squirted water with the hose- it went high up in the trees! On the top of the fire truck was ahuge hose connection that moved like a robot. It was a bit scary!!!
In Maths we were thinking about chance- we rolled lots of dice and tried to guess which number would come up most. It was not always our lucky numbers.
We have started practising for our Assembly item. We will be performing in week 7 and it will be very cool!

Week 4 Term 3
Last week we did not write our blog because we were busy celebrating 100 days of Prep. We all brought 100 things to school in a zip lock bag and then we counted them in different ways, like by 2s, by 5s, in groups of ten and even using a 100 chart to check!
We did lots of activities to do with 100, like making necklaces out of ‘Froot Loops’, dot to dot pictures, 100 glasses and we all wore our 100 days of Prep hats to Assembly! The Leader newspaper came and took our photo. We all smiled and put up our hands to show we were excited.
We made fairy bread with hundreds and thousands! We all got to eat a delicious cake that was in the shape of 100! It was a great day.
We are now in our second hundred days of school!
Our letter of the week is ‘u’.
We are learning about money- we know that 50c and 50c makes a dollar. We sorted coins and even made our own paper money. We played lots of games with money. There is a great shop in Prep L. We know that if you want money you have to earn it. The bank won’t give you money unless you have put some in the bank.
The Police came to visit us on Tuesday. We dressed up in Police clothes and hats and we all got to sit in the Police car. There is a computer in the car, and a radio for talking to the other police. Some lucky people even made the siren go!
Today some Hawthorn players came to visit us and tell us about footy. We learnt how to do a punt kick and a banana kick!!! Some groups did handballing and tapping the ball along the ground. Everyone tried to get goals.
